The blade and the mountings are inExcellent condition.The sword has a blade length of 26.75 inches (68cm). The sword has bo-hi, or fullers, running the length ofthe blade on both sides. The sword shows a tight itame hada. There is no hamon and the blade looks to be of arsenalmanufacture. The blade is mumei, orunsigned. Based on the shape, workmanship, and age, the sword looks to be anearly murata-to, or one of the famousexperimental swords developed by the Japanese general Murata Tsuneyoshi. This sword also has Marine veteran provenance. The sword waspicked up at the Battle of Saipan where it was recovered after a failed lastditch assault by Japanese Army and Navy infantry. Details of the veteran and hisservice will be made available to the buyer at their request.The mountings are Russo-Japanese period Kyu Gunto. The mountings are in Excellent condition. The tsukais saber-shaped with all of the wire wraps present. The saya (scabbard) isplated metal. The saya shows a couple very small dents and a few small areas ofscattered rust and scratches, retaining 90-95%original finish. There is alocking mechanism present. The blade is in Excellentcondition. There are a few very small micro nicks including one in the kissaki.There are also a few small scattered spots of rust and some small scratchesalong the blade. There are no major flaws like hagire.Given its condition, history, and provenance, I think this piece would bean excellent addition for a collector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms andadditional items: This item is original and not a knockoff or fake.
