1978 Fender Jazz Bass Vintage Electric Bass Guitar Sunburst Blocks & Binding
Item History & Price
The maple neck has a chunky and full-feeling C shaped profile with good shoulder, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret, graduating to .975" at the 12th fret. The neck profile and headstock face shows notable ambering of the gloss finish, with some mottling of the finish (visually, not texturally) on the treble side of the profile. The original frets are intact and have good meat, having been leveled and crowned in the instrument’s lifetime, currently showing just a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-3. The truss rod is responsive, the neck is straight, and the bass plays well in all registers with no untoward buzzes or dead spots. The nut has the traditional Jazz Bass 1 1/2" width, and the headstock face has the small block logo associated with that latter half of the '70s. The original chrome Fender tuners with clover buttons are also intact.
On the body, the original gray bobbin pickups are present, wired to an older set of CTS pots and a premium tone cap. The stock bridge is intact with a new G saddle and clean chrome plating. The bass has at one time been fitted with a different bridge, as evidenced by the subtle imprint of a larger baseplate forward of the current bridge footprint. The chrome "ashtray" bridge and pickup covers are brand new Fender vintage-spec replacements. The original gloss Sunburst three-tone finish shows no touchup or overspray, highlighting the prominent grain of the ash body. The finish has a matte appearance on the treble side lower bout edge, with some texture through the gloss from a strap or case lining. Additional wear includes chips around the body edges and on the back, with various finish scratches and shallow nicks on the back too.
The original molded Fender USA hardshell case is included. The case has a variety of vintage stickers on the exterior, and the stock latches and handle are present.
