Nice little Civil War period dirk knife with a bone handle decorated with two inlaid horn dots and horn pommel. It's a solid well built dirk and comes with it's original sheath which is worn from use but intact. Notice the Indian holding a similar size dirk in the last image. Stamped: "G. WOODHEAD / 36 HOWARD, ST. / SHEFFIELD". Dates to 1850's - 60's. This type was popular with Civil War soldiers because of their convenient size.
Condition of the double ed...ged blade is very good. It has been cleaned but quite some time ago and retains a somewhat dull grey patina. Overall length, 8".
