DESCRIPTIONFor sale we have an outstanding antique 1/2 Viss (50 tical) Burmese opium weight with beautiful patina. This weight is in the form of a Karaweik bird, a mythical bird type beast revered in Burma.
Bronze opium weights were use through...out South-East Asia to weigh all kinds of things such as gold, silver, spices, opium and many others.
The weights date from as early as the 15th Century to the 19th Century. When the British colony arrived in Burma in the late 19th century they implemented different units of measurement and thus the Burmese opium weights became defunct.
The weight is stunning in it's design, and has been marked to the front right side of the base with a duck or bird mark.
The weight dates to approx early 1800s, it's very difficult to pinpoint exact age of these weights as different information sources all differ slightly.
Please bid with absolute confidence, this is 100% genuine antique weight, and I will offer free returns if not completely satisfied.
