Hello and thank you for looking. For your consideration is an incredibly unique Daum vase. This piece may not suit every Daum collector, but for those collectors looking for something different and somewhat experimental, this is a very compelling piece. Starting with the basics, it stands a full 15” tall, and bears a very rare engraved Daum Nancy signature. Most sources state that this engraved signature is encountered on less than 5% of their pieces, and usually is found on their hi...gher quality padded and wheel carved vases. This signature may not be seen often, but make no mistake, this is absolutely a recognized, authentic marking. You will no doubt have noticed the odd silver/grey thin line that encircles the bottom of the vase, right above the signature. This stumped me for quite some time as it is not the result of a repair, but nor does it seem to be part of the artist’s design. I have shown this piece to several experts and appraisers, and the consensus seems to be that at one point this vase had a metal base that was removed, leaving the line we now see. Other remarks from expert collectors and appraisers is this piece was quite likely a transitional piece dating to the 1920’s. There was also some speculation that the piece may have been started but left unfinished. While this was just speculation by one expert, it may explain the somewhat atypical appearance of the piece. There was not any concern however, that this is not an authentic Daum Nancy piece. I can also add that this was purchased at a high end art auction from a very well respected auction house in Scottsdale, AZ about 15 years ago.
