The Greenlees brothers of London took inspiration for their blended Scotch Whisky from Old Tom Parr, who was said to be Britain’s oldest man when he died in 1635 at the age of 152 (he’s now buried at Westminster Abbey). The brothers – James and Samuel – established Greenlees as a whisky blender and merchant in 1871 and created the Old Parr blend s...oon after in 1909. It quickly became a big seller in London, but eventually grew to become more successful as an export.This very rare piece is a Royal Doulton Kingsware “The Pirates” flask created for the Greenlees Brothers Claymore Scotch Whisky Distillers. This flask measures 6.5 inches tall and dates 1909. Stamped on the back of the flask“AC.” The “Pirates” flask was the first year in the series produced for Greenlees Brothers Whisky, which is marked on the bottom of the jug. This new mark, available for use on all the decorated Doulton Lambeth and Burslem wares, was introduced in 1902 after the company had been given the right, the previous year, to use the description ‘Royal Doulton’ for its products. The lower portion of the mark (below the lion and crown) was used on smaller pots from 1902 to 1956.This flask is in excellent condition with some crazing. There are no chips, no cracks or restorations. Please check all photos for further condition.
