Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:119413 |
Maker is Bent & Bush Boston Both swords belonged to Daniel E. Hodgson, Captain R.C.S., 2 Comdg. Circa 1898
Unfortunately, I have no further provenance other than oral directly. I was present in 1979 when my Father purchased thes...e from Captain Hodgson's, grand daughter in Detroit Michigan. Also purchased with them was the Commissioning Certificate of Captain Hodgson by Abraham Lincolns signature. Dad sold this to a friend in Lakeland Florida in 1996. Also, part of dads estate and sold at Great Gadsby's Auction in Atlanta Georgia was a swagger stick walking cane with an engraved working cannon as a handle presented to Captain Hodgson as a commemorative relic of War of 1812 Relic Cane / Walking Stick made from wood taken from the US Brig Lawrence - the Flagship of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry which was nearly destroyed and captured by the British during the Battle of Lake Erie and then recaptured by the American Forces and the site of the British Surrender to Perry following the Battle!! It is a shame we have just found these following Dads passing and that they were not sold as a lot.
I do not have the scabbards. The above is the only provenance. If they do not sell, we will just mount them and smile occasionally.
