The entire doll is of the highest quality and craftsmanship, including the clothing. It was very expensive, and is a... limited edition of 20 dolls ever made. This doll is #2 of that 20. They are rarely offered for sale, and this exact one has probably never been offered. No two of Helga's dolls are ever completely alike, as she used different materials and colors for the clothing for one thing. This doll is hand crafted, and much pride taken in making her. Helga personally sewed all the clothing herself as well as making the dolls. They are truly works of art.
This particular girl is so sweet and so beautiful you will fall in love with her. Her wooden face has outstanding painting, with beautiful features, especially her eyes. Her human hair is a beautiful red color and long, in ponytails with ribbons.
Her hands are so lovely. The wood extends to almost her elbows. Her cloth body is wonderful also. She is marked on the back of her head with the Helga Weich symbol and then the numbers, 96/20/02. This is repeated in her hang tag tied on the back of her outfit. It shows she was made in 1996, 20 were made, and this is number 2 of the 20. The rest of the tag is in German, so I cannot read it.
This sweet girl's handmade clothing are of the highest quality. She wears cotton flannel white pantaloons with the "Helga Weich Puppe" cloth label attached with cursive stitching in red. Then the white soft cotton slip with scalloped finished edges. She has a white blouse with open lace at the neck and the sleeves. Over that is a checked tan and green sturdy fabric dress. Her dress has roll up sleeves, revealing a different fabric. Over her dress in front is a black satin apron with embroidered flowers and flower buds and centers of blue. It ties into a bow at the waist in the same fabric. Over the top of the dress is a beautiful grey wool knit sweater with pewter/silver buttons. She has black short boots or shoes with criss-cross green ties and blue knit socks with grey stripes. She even has a necklace that looks like real garnets, but I cannot say for sure. She carries a purse with a white hanky sticking out. But my favorite accessory is her beautiful navy blue felt wool hat with gorgeous felt flowers on it!
Along with the doll comes a lot of provenance saved by the original owner. She has the glossy flyer with pictures of dolls of Helga Weich and hand signed by her. I believe that the owner met the artist in person in Germany. There is also a lovely postcard with a painting of Rpthenburg, Germany to the owner Eily with a thank you message. In addition, an open up antique cabinet picture card which shows the shop in Rothenburg where the doll was purchased and has a lot of information inside about the shop and what it sells. On the back is a map of the city, with major points of interest. There is also a Biography and History of Helga Weich paper, with lots of great information. And finally, Eily even kept the original brown paper packaging where it shows addresses, prices, etc. (In the picture, it shows only half of the label).
This doll would be an amazing addition to your doll collection! Don't let her get away! You won't find another. And also I discovered that USPS will be raising rates on larger items when the implement the Dimensional Weight Pricing on June 23. So, please pay right away if you win her, so that I can print the label before rates go up. Thank you. I am listing some of my lovely larger dolls today and tomorrow, so please check my other auctions.
