If how a piece of antique technology looks is as important to you as how it works, make sure to check out all of my auctions this week. I'm listing more than a half dozen different items that have one thing in common: they're as wonderful to behold as they are to operate. And don't forget, you can add me to your favorite seller list and Ebay will automatically send you updates when I put similar new auctions online.
Here's a beautiful little quarter-pla...te tailboard camera manufactured in England in the late 1800's. Though small (just 5" x 7" x 6" when closed) the camera is built to the highest standards and comes with its original canvas carrying case, a signed Rouch & Co. 5 x 4 lens and a double-slide plate holder.
Condition is very good throughout, with normal signs of age and use. Bellows are clean and supple, with no misfolds (see pictures); ground glass back is undamaged; lens has no damage, no fungus. Brass fittings and small hardware are in good condition, with some tarnish and oxidation, but nothing excessive. The circular fitting below the lensboard is solely decorative. It is just a top, not a turnscrew. Primary wood appears to be Honduran mahogany.
The camera folds up neatly and looks nice from any angle.
The original canvas carrying case is worn, with torn flaps on top, but it still does a nice job of housing the camera.
Please review the pictures and consider them an integral part of the description.
